The Georgetown Splash pads are awesome. and the one off of Guelph Street (by Christ The King High School) is my son's favourite.

one of my favourite features is what I call the Stargate because of it's similarity to the movie of the same name.  It really is a great looking feature and the kids love running through the water jets.  We went last week and had a park picnic supper and wound down with some summer splashing.  

The light was just perfect for some dramatic shots!

Since I'm new to blogging but not new to photography I'll be occasionally posting "old" sessions. I shot this wonderful couple in March.  Things were still wintry and I got to give Dave a good soaker by leading everyone through a field.

Halton Hills Small Business Builder - Portrait and Headshot offer

As someone who’s had to cobble every little piece of information, website, text and images by himself I know the work that goes into building your own business.  With that in mind I wanted to launch a trial program for Halton Hills residents.  The Me Breathing Small Business Builder.

The offer is simple.  If you are a small business and are in need of headshots for your facebook page, website or print pieces I will shoot, and edit one watermark free, high resolution digital image for $10.  Additional images can be purchased at a cost of $5 an image, up to 5 images in total.

If you are a charity you qualify for a free headshot!

My typical studio headshot price starts at $60.  I’m doing this simply because I recognize that our business faces need to be as professional as our business itself and that can be difficult if you don’t have access to the right people or equipment. 

I love doing environmental portraits and would love to make those available but offering that depends on current workload, and our mutual availability.  Studio works best because I can easily work around a lot of things, time being the most pressing. Please understand if you want an environmental shoot and I cannot make it work.

As a trial this offer is open from June 12 – 26, and to the first 10 people/businesses who qualify.  After that I can evaluate the success/demand of such a program and do it again. I love giving where I can so I'd love to do this on a regular basis.

Stranger Portraits

I'm shy.  I really am.  That is somewhat surprising to people that have known me for a while but I'm actually a quiet fellow who feels very comfortable watching and listening rather than actively engaging and talking. That first moment when you talk to someone you don't know is like vertigo for me, I have to fight through it.  It can be easier to just not do it.

Oddly enough one of the things I really enjoy is approaching strangers and asking them if I can take their portrait.

Yesterday my family was playing at one of the many parks in Georgetown and I saw these nice set of stairs and above them the making of some fantastic clouds.  When it was time to pack up and head home I decided I was going to go get my gear head around town to see if there was anything worth taking a photo of.

Luckily I came upon Josh and his friends skateboarding.  Strangers are always surprisingly free with their time and they were a lot of fun to photograph. We tried to do some action shots that didn't pan out but I really enjoyed the standing portraits.

Ben and Clint took turns helping me out with the lighting which is always a plus.  I love it when everyone gets involved!

I jump from loving natural light and  (off camera) flash photography.  There's a lot to be said for either and I would love to settle down and focus on one but I find that it never hurts to have the ability to use either.

This series with Shannon uses both.  We started with flash in a 28" westcott apollo and a reflector but just looking at the back of my screen, I realized I would be looking for something a little different. We struck down the lights and made use of window light and a reflector.

The entire shoot lasted about 35 minutes and we got some great looks.
